Two main options:

On the hitting surface: large and prominent. Visible to opponents and fellow players. Works well with short names or initials.

Tips for a good end result

Go for contrast. White text on a black paddle or black text on a white paddle works better than subtle color combinations.

Not too small. For good legibility on the court: at least 5 cm high for the name on the hitting surface.

Capital letters often work better than lowercase letters with short names. “BOB” looks stronger than “Bob” on a paddle.
