Why pickleball clubs choose custom paddles instead of trophies
A trophy ends up in a cupboard. A paddle gets used every week. That is the shortest version, but there is more to it.

In conversations with club board members we keep hearing the same frustration. Standard gifts like trophies, pens and bag tags disappear. Literally. A member gets a trophy on a club evening, the trophy goes home, the trophy disappears into a cupboard, the trophy gets thrown away during a move. Club logo taken home to no one.
A custom pickleball paddle, on the other hand, goes onto the court every week. Club logo visible to opponents, coaches, visitors. It is merchandise that actually functions. That is not marketing nonsense, we see it reflected in who contacts us afterwards. How we precisely make a custom pickleball paddle you can read in our process article.
Three use cases that work
Tournament prizes instead of trophies
Clubs that organize their club championships often give three trophies to the top three. A logical choice, but also a predictable one. At clubs we work with we replace that with three custom paddles with the club logo and “Club Champion 2026” on the hitting surface.
Cost: around €100 per unit at a small volume, comparable to a nice engraved trophy. Impact: the winners play with it on the court, non-winners want one for next year too. Some clubs make it an annual tradition.
Variant: instead of only the top three, make paddles for each category winner (men, women, mixed, 35+, youth). At 6 to 10 paddles you are already in the favorable volume bracket.
Club paddle for new members
Larger clubs offer a welcome paddle with an annual membership instead of a welcome package with a towel and water bottle. That sounds like a pricey idea, until you look at the volume prices. From 50 units the price drops to €36 per paddle.
For clubs with hundreds of members this is a one-off season investment that delivers club-brand visibility the whole year. Plus: new members feel part of the club right away, which increases retention. We see this reflected in clubs that have seen their member turnover drop sharply since they started this.
Event or sponsor day giveaway
Club days, open days, sponsor dinners, club trips, anniversaries: all occasions where you would normally hand out something nice. A club paddle as a giveaway works because it promotes the sport itself and is a clear reminder of the event.
Clubs celebrating an anniversary (25 years, 50 years in existence) often use this for board members and honorary volunteers. One of the clubs we worked with did this for 40 loyal volunteers, with their name on the hitting surface. Not a dry eye in the house.
What it really costs
To be concrete: for 25 custom paddles, printed with the club logo and individual player name on the hitting surface, including VAT and shipping within the Netherlands, you are at €39 per unit. Total €975 for a gift that 25 members display for years.
Compare with 25 trophies and pens at €50 per unit that are forgotten within a month. Same total, completely different effect.
At 50 paddles: €36 per unit, total €1800. At 100 units or more we work with a custom quote, but the prices then drop further below €70. For sponsorship or corporate-gift context: see pickleball corporate gift.
How to get started
The simplest: design an example club paddle in our designer, click “request a quote”, fill in the quantity. Within four hours you get a concrete quote with delivery time. We think along about individual names, possible sponsor logos alongside the club logo, and gift packaging if you want. No quote bot, a real conversation.
Delivery time for club orders: 7 to 14 days after approval of the proof, depending on quantity. For urgent events such as an anniversary on a date, we always look at whether it can be faster.
Not yet convinced the investment pays off? Quick calculation: 1 custom paddle has around 400 moments of use per year with a keen player (used 1 to 2 times a week). With 25 members that is 10,000 moments per year that your club logo is visible on pickleball courts. That is more reach than a club shirt worn only during competition.
